Actor Swara Bhasker expressed her frustration on Instagram after her X (formerly Twitter) account was forever suspended. The star expressed her annoyance that two of her tweets, including one wishing people a Happy Republic Day, were flagged for copyright issues.
Swara shared photos of the notices she got from X, along with posts that were flagged for copyright issues. She wrote, “(You can’t invent this!)” Dear X, Two pictures from two tweets have been labelled as copyright violations. My X account is locked and disabled, and your team has accepted a permanent suspension, so I can’t access it.
She explained which of her posts were flagged for breaking the rules. “One with an orange background and text in Hindi Devnagri script reading “Gandhi Hum Sharmindaa hain, Tere qaatil zinda hain” is a popular slogan of the progressive movement in India. There is no violation of copyright. It’s similar to a current city folk style.
Swara asked why a photo of her daughter is being flagged for copyright issues. She said, “The second image marked as a violation is a picture of MY OWN child, whose face is hidden, waving an Indian flag, and it says ‘HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY India’.” How could this be considered copyright infringement? Who owns the rights to my child’s image? Both of these complaints are unreasonable and cannot be supported by any reasonable knowledge of copyright laws.
The actor said that if many people reported her tweets, it’s because someone is trying to limit her right to express herself. She believes that the reports are meant to intimidate her. Please reconsider your choice. Thanks, Swara Bhaskar.
