Pros

  • Powerful Performances: Akshay Kumar delivers a commanding portrayal of Wing Commander Ahuja, complemented by Veer Pahariya's impressive debut.
  • Engaging Storyline: The film balances action-packed sequences with emotional depth, keeping viewers invested.
  • Spectacular Visuals: Stunning aerial combat scenes and detailed cinematography by Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran.
  • Patriotism Without Overdramatization: A balanced and respectful portrayal of national pride.
  • Tribute to Unsung Heroes: Highlights the bravery of real-life heroes, like Squadron Leader A.B. Devayya, with a compelling narrative.

Cons

  • Slow Start: The initial training scenes take time to build momentum.
  • Underdeveloped Subplots: Certain supporting characters, like Geeta Vijaya and Preeti Ahuja, could have had more depth.
  • Predictable Elements: Some parts of the story feel familiar to war drama enthusiasts.
  • Short Screen Time for Supporting Cast: Talented actors like Sharad Kelkar and Nimrat Kaur deserved more significant roles.
  • Pacing Issues: While the action sequences are thrilling, some moments in the narrative feel stretched.

Sky Force Review: Based on true events from the 1965 Indo-Pak War, Sky Force tells the story of the Indian Air Force’s brave attack on Pakistan’s strong Sargodha bases. The film is about a daring pilot who goes missing and his Wing Commander, who spends almost twenty years trying to find out what happened.

War films often show bravery, sacrifice, and love for one’s country. In Sky Force, directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, there’s an interesting twist to this formula. The movie shows the 1965 Indo-Pak War and the first air battle between the two countries. The story is about Squadron Leader T.K. ‘Tabby’ Vijaya (Veer Pahariya), who ignores the rules and goes on a solo mission into enemy land during Mission Sky Force. His refusal leads to his strange disappearance, and Wing Commander K.O. ‘Tiger’ Ahuja (Akshay Kumar) starts a determined 19-year search to find out what happened to Tabby.

The movie starts with a familiar setting of flight training scenes and some fun moments, but it has trouble getting the audience’s attention at first. When the story moves to the air, it really takes off. Kewlani’s script and A. Sreekar Prasad’s careful editing create a strong story that keeps the audience interested and emotionally involved. Cinematographer Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran, along with action directors Craig MacRae and Parvez Shaikh, creates amazing scenes that hold the audience’s attention. The story briefly mentions political obstacles and bureaucratic issues, making it feel more realistic without slowing down the action. The emotional peak, where the truth about Tabby’s goal comes out, is both sad and fulfilling, making sure viewers might want to have tissues ready. Tanishk Bagchi’s music and Justin Varghese’s background score add to the film’s national and emotional feel, working well with the visuals.

Akshay Kumar gives a strong performance as Wing Commander Ahuja, showing both leadership and feeling, especially in his smooth handling of bureaucratic problems. Veer Pahariya had a great debut in an important part. He brings charm and energy to the role and stands out. Their friendship on TV feels real and engaging. Sharad Kelkar plays Squadron Leader Ahmed Hussain and does a great job in his short part. Sara Ali Khan plays Geeta Vijaya in a short part, and she is easy to like. Nimrat Kaur plays Preeti Ahuja, Manish Chaudhri plays Group Captain Lawrence, Soham Mujumdar plays Tabby’s foe Debashish Chatterjee, and Varun Badola plays Air Chief Marshal Amit. They all provide strong support.

Sky Force presents patriotism in a fair way without being overly dramatic or hostile. It honours heroes who often go unnoticed, like Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya, whose courage is reflected in Tabby’s character. The film is a great tribute and is a must-see for fans of war dramas that mix action with strong writing. Despite some minor issues in the story, it’s a movie that’s definitely worth watching.
