Blake Lively sues Justin Baldoni for sexual harassment. His team denies the claims, calling them a desperate attempt to fix her reputation.
Blake Lively filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, her co-star and director on It Ends With Us, on Saturday. Variety reports that the actress also claimed that Baldoni tried to launch a smear campaign against her, which has caused her family a great deal of emotional pain. In response to the claims, Baldoni’s team declared that they were “categorically false accusations.”
A meeting was allegedly held during the filming of It Ends With Us to discuss Liverly’s claims and her demands for working on the movie, according to the lawsuit that TMZ was able to obtain. According to reports, Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, Lively’s husband and an actor, also attended the meeting. The demands reportedly included “no more showing Blake nude videos or images of women, no more bringing up Baldoni’s alleged past addiction to pornography, and no more talking about sexual conquests in front of Blake and others, no more bringing up the genitalia of the cast and crew, no more questions about Blake’s weight, and no more bringing up Blake’s deceased father.”
The demands also stated that Baldoni could not alter any intimate or sexual scenes at the last minute other than those that the actress had already given her approval for prior to the start of filming. According to reports, Sony Pictures, the film’s distributor, granted these requests. According to Blake’s lawsuit, Baldoni is also charged with “social manipulation” and starting a campaign to “destroy” Lively’s reputation.
“It is shameful that Ms. Lively and her representatives would make such serious and categorically false accusations against Mr. Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and its representatives, as yet another desperate attempt to ‘fix’ her negative reputation which was garnered from her own remarks and actions during the film’s campaign; interviews and press activities that were observed publicly, in real time, and unedited, which allowed the internet to generate their own views and opinions,” Baldoni’s team said in a statement submitted to Variety.
The statement went on to say, “These claims are blatantly untrue, outrageous, and purposefully salacious with the intention of hurting the public and rehashing a media narrative.” Due to the numerous demands and threats made by Ms. Lively during production, including her threats to not show up to set and to not promote the film, which would ultimately lead to its demise during release, Wayfarer Studios decided to proactively hire a crisis manager before the film’s marketing campaign, working alongside their own representative with Jonesworks, which was employed by Stephanie Jones. Even before any marketing for the movie had started, it was found that Ms. Lively had hired her own agent, Leslie Sloan of Vision PR, who also represents Mr. Reynolds, to spread unfavourable and wholly made-up and false stories in the media. This was another reason why Wayfarer Studios decided to hire a crisis professional to start internal scenario planning in case they needed to handle the situation.
According to the statement’s conclusion, “Wayfarer Studios representatives only responded to incoming media enquiries to ensure balanced and factual reporting and monitored social activity, and they did nothing proactive or retaliatory.” The evidence that no proactive steps were taken, either with the media or otherwise, only internal scenario planning and private correspondence to strategizeβstandard operating procedure for public relations professionalsβis conspicuously absent from the cherry-picked correspondence. The It Ends With Us press tour between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni created a lot of buzz because it was clear that the two did not agree. Many people noticed at the time that the two celebrities were promoting the movie independently, and it was said that this was because of a feud between them on set.
