On November 15, 2024, Dheeraj Sarna’s film “The Sabarmati Report,” which starred Vikrant Massey and Raashii Khanna, was released. With the goal of offering a complex interpretation of the incident, the movie explores the historical circumstances surrounding the Godhra train burning tragedy.
The movie made ₹1.30 crore on its first day of release in India. I think it made about ₹6.40 crore over the first weekend.
The Sabarmati Report” made about ₹11 crore at the Indian box office by the end of its first week.
The movie kept drawing crowds as it moved into its second and third weeks, albeit more slowly. The estimated nett collection for the film in India by the twentieth day was ₹29.80 crore.
With a gross collection of ₹41.33 crore, the movie’s nett collection in India reached ₹35.03 crore by the 30th day. This means that about 70% of the movie’s reportedly ₹50 crore production budget has been recovered. Nevertheless, it still needs an extra ₹14 crore to cover its expenses, falling short of the break-even point.
“The Sabarmati Report” was able to establish a niche audience in spite of fierce competition from other big releases such as “Singham Again” and “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,” partly because of favourable word-of-mouth and the fact that it was tax-free in a number of states.
